Willows May Weep

Mae Dell Clark and Terry Rivers are from very different cultures during the middle twentieth century, when fraternization between the races was not tolerated in the south. They meet at the age of eleven, when Terry saves Mae from a racial assault by his cousins by not telling where she is hidden. They then nuture their taboo friendship in the seclusion of the willow tree by the Neches river. They conceive a child and are allowed to believe that she is deceased. Many secrets are revealed when their daughter, Willow's, identity is exposed.
