As a doctor, Kathleen Wooton strongly believes that laughter is the best medicine; she also believes that the best way for her to administer that “medicine” is by being a humorist, which allows her to give the kind of “shot in the arm” that so many of us need—a good belly laugh on a daily basis. As a mother, Kathy believes that every day she manages to survive motherhood without personal injury or criminal charges is a blessing.
That Girl’s Not Right is a delightful romp through the mind and musings of Kathleen Wooton. Her hilarious commentary provides a unique and often quirky look at what other wise might be mundane life situations—from the entirely relatable “Why Does Water Need a Child-Proof Cap?” to the all-too-true “Sleep Deprivation and the Exhausted Mom,”
That Girl’s Not Right speaks to all of us through the universal language of laughter. Whether poetry or prose—and Wooton offers a healthy dose of each—the homespun humor in this collection is just what the doctor ordered.
Dr. Kathleen Wooton is the wife in a two physician marriage, the mother of two teens and a recovering Supermom. When the demands of work and parenthood became too much for this SuperMom wannabe to handle, she traded in her stethoscope for a reliable word processing program, an apron and a pooper scooper (not for the kids, three dogs make a lot of poop). She is a humor columnist whose observations have been published in two humor columns and numerous print and online publications. She has been a finalist, semi-finalist, and an honorable mention recipient in the HumorPress "America's Funniest Humor™" Contest, sometimes more than one in the same contest, because SuperMom tendencies are hard to overcome.
Wooton also is a graduate of Georgian Court University, an all-women University, where she double-majored in Biology and Chemistry, as there were no pesky men to interrupt her studies. She went on to Seton Hall University Graduate School for Biology, where she gained a future husband but passed on the Masters degree. UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School was Wooton's next educational pit stop, where she became a wife, a mother of two and a physician. Medical residency was next on the career-go-round, and it was after a particularly tough night on call, followed by breakfast with her family (at a local restaurant, with a very hyper three year old) that the Doctor Wooton became the Writer Wooton. "The Toddler Helpline" was born that very day and was published far and wide on the internet. For the record, Wooton contends that her son was never tied to a ceiling fan.
Dr. Wooton has also worked at a jail, as a staff physician, and an indigent clinic. She has nothing funny to share about that, disparity in health care for the poor is not a laughing matter.
Kathleen Wooton lives in suburban New Jersey with her husband, two children, three dogs and four birds. She is currently working on her next book, titled "Autism Speaks and Spills All of Our Family Secrets".
