Jeff Triton’s first few months at Mon Gracia Medical School resemble a casting call for a stag film, with Jeff, the lone atheist on a Christian campus, entertaining a steady stream of curious – and adventurous – female students.

Jeff finds himself comfortable despite the quirks of his medical brethren of faith. He always questioned his future success unless he could get an Ivy League reputation behind his name and degree. But at what price would such success come as he later becomes an emergency resident at Yale?

When catastrophic events hurl him from roles of student to doctor and later frightened patient or bereaved family member, his paradigm is shattered. The iconic emblems and Latin phrases that once embodied his future suddenly seem hollow and empty as his life spirals out of control.

In a journey whose path is lit by stories of passion, humor, tension and tragedy, Jeff’s view of relationships, medicine and even faith develop far beyond what even Jeff could have predicted.

Preston Stone was born in California, where he studied all the way through medical school. After training on the East Coast, he now practices family medicine in Encinitas, California. He has published several academic articles in the fields of science and medicine. It’s Better to Be from Yale is his first fiction work and is based on his observations and experiences as he personally grew through his medical training. Today he finds his greatest passion within medicine is to treat his patients with education and inspiration as much as medication.
